It is evening in the nursery. Sofia watching Pia and Raphael getting dressed after their bath. Nomsa is helping them. Dad enters and greets Pia and Raphael with hugs, and says hello to Nomsa. Sofia’s expression lights up when dad enters. She waits for him to greet the others for a moment and as his attention turns to her, she crawls to him and bobs up and down as he crouches to pick her up. Dad and Sofia have a chat and dad puts Sofia down to go and change. As she reaches the floor she begins to cry, and dad responds by picking her up again. Dad kisses her as she rubs her eyes and Pia says from below “she wants daddy, she wants daddy”. Fia moves towards and away from dad so that he can give her some repeated kisses on her forehead. They have a to-and-fro interaction. Dad puts Sofia down while he helps Raphael with his dressing gown. Sofia, holding onto dad’s legs, stands up against him and looks around at the activities in the room.
Dad tries again to hand Sofia over to Nomsa so that he can change clothes but she begins to cry, holding her hands out towards dad. Dad carries Sofia down to the kitchen for supper. He talks to Shirley, the housekeeper about what is for Sofia's supper "mushed chicken pie from last night". Turning to the filmmaker, dad says “We’ve been very uninterested in our food for the last week or so”.
